Carl T. Wert

Carl T. Wert, 83, of Mohnton, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Reading Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen V. “Pat” (Richards) Wert.

Born in Mohnton, he was the son of the late Elias and Hattie R. (Schneck) Wert.

Carl was a 1951 graduate of the former Mohnton High School.  He retired from the Dana Corporation in Reading on Feb. 19, 1991 where he was employed as a controller.  He was a member of Zion E.C. Church in Mohnton.  

Carl was very active in his community.  He was the former Mohnton Justice of the Peace and Borough Auditor.  He was a past member of the following committees:  Democratic County Committee;  Mohnton Boy Scouts;  Grill Fire Company;  Berks County American Red Cross Treasurer and Director; Berks County Vo-Tech School Data Processing; and was Past-President of the Mohnton Recreation Association.

He currently served on the following committees:  Zion Evangelical Church Steward Board President; Mohnsville Cemetery Vice-President; Mifflin Area Y.M.C.A. Board; The Industries of the Wyomissing Creek Historical Society; Greater Governor Mifflin League - Community Days;  Berks County Tax Collection; and the following organizations and committees in Mohnton, Civil Service, Judge of Elections, Memorial Day Parade, the 75th & 100th. Borough Anniversary. 

He was a current member of the Mohnton League of Golden Agers; The Gouglersville Hilltoppers, The Washington Camp 211 P.O.S. of A.;  Friendship Fire Company #2;  and Grill Fire Company.  Carl received the “Mohnton Citizen of the Year Award” in 1993.

Surviving is a son, Timothy A. Wert of Ashley, PA and five grandchildren, Eric and Jason Wagner; Amy, David, and Matthew Wert.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Denice L. Wagner in 2011, and a sister, Grace I. McKale in 2014.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, with Pastor Robert W. Shuey, officiating.

A viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Zion E.C. Church, 57 N. Church Street, Mohnton, PA 19540.
