Richard James Postetter, Sr., 88 of Sinking Spring, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Geraldine M. (James) Postetter with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late David E., Sr. and Ethel (Apple) Postetter.

Richard was a 1947 graduate of the Reading High School.  After high school he enrolled at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and graduated in 1951. Then he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant.    He taught at Fleetwood School District for five years and the Reading School District for 26 years until retirement.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mohnton where he was a 40 year member of the choir; a 50 year member of the Chandler Lodge # 227 F&AM, Reading, and the Scottish Rite AASR; and a lifetime member of the REA-R, PSEA-R, and NEA-R.  He was a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed life and spending time with his family especially on vacations at the beach.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Richard J. Postetter, Jr. of Reading, and Ronald E., husband of Michele M. Postetter of Key West, Florida.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jennifer Postetter, Michael, husband of Kellen Postetter, Brett and Rick Postetter, and Marie Sweigart; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie, wife of Richard Smith of Virginia.

He was predeceased by a brother, David E. Postetter, Jr.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1 West Wyomissing Avenue, Mohnton, PA 19540 with Pastor Scott A. Widmer, officiating.

Friends may call on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church to offer condolences to the family.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the church.
