Carl Leh Obituary

Carl Evan (Smokey) Leh, 89, of Brecknock Twp., made his final flyover in the missing man formation  on July 13, 2018. 

Born February 4, 1929 in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Carl and Grace (Peters) Leh.  Carl is survived by his loving and devoted wife Marilyn (Stauffer) Leh, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage on April 4, 2018.

Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Air Force from which he retired after 21 years of service.  He joined the Navy in 1945 at the age of 16 and was also a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He loved his military career and enjoyed traveling with his family while serving in both the U.S. and overseas.  Carl was a life member of the V.F.W. and the V.U.M.S. (Veterans of Underage Military Service).  He was a member of the American Legion Post 0635, the D.A.V. and the Teamsters #429.

He enjoyed a good joke and had a quick wit.  Before becoming ill with Parkinson’s disease, he loved long walks and tending his yard and gardens with his kitty daughter, Coco.

In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his two special daughters:  Debra (Frank) Leh-Pargac of Houston, TX; and Dianne (Clancy) Herr of Brecknock Twp.  Also surviving are granddaughters, Brianne Herr of Brecknock Twp.; Taylor Herr of Oakland, CA; and a great grandson, London Herr.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, PA, with Rev. Dr. Martha M. Smith, officiating.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Box 13103, Reading, PA 19612; or to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warrior Project, 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011; or to the V.U.M.S., P.O. Box 338, Loreauville, LA 70552; or to a charity of your choice.
