Nancy J. (Smith) Fichthorn

Nancy Jane (Smith) Fichthorn, age 77, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy (PSP). She was raised in Mohnton, PA by loving parents Ralph and Anna (née Weaver) Smith. Nancy graduated from Governor Mifflin HS and Beaver College, now Arcadia University, with a degree in Elementary Education. She touched the hearts of many children, first as a Kindergarten teacher and later when she and her dear friend opened Play & Learn Preschool, which they operated for over 20 years in Muhlenberg Twp.  Family and friends were Nancy’s greatest joy.  Nancy was an active member of Calvary UMC in Mohnton, PA where she served as worship lay leader and on various committees. She treasured spending time and vacationing with family, especially in Ocean City, NJ and had many hobbies including bridge, bowling and golf, and was also an avid gardener.  

She is survived by her husband Fred Fichthorn, who she met at Mohnton Elementary school in Kindergarten; Son Jeff, husband of Connie of Muhlenberg Twp. and Daughter Cindy, wife of Mark Fortunato of Spring Twp.  Nancy was blessed to have 4 Grandchildren and 1 Step-Grandchild: Courtney Anne Fichthorn of Muhlenberg Twp., Abigail Jane Fortunato of Spring Twp., Aaron James Fortunato of Spring Twp., Amelia Anne Fortunato, Spring Twp. and step-granddaughter Allison W. Barrett of Royersford.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1 W. Wyomissing Avenue, Mohnton, PA 19540 with Pastor Scott A. Widmer, officiating.

Friends may call to greet the family and offer condolences from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment at Mohnsville Cemetery will be private.
