Barbara Clara Chambers passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on February 6, 2024, at Berks Heim Home in Leesport, PA. Born on September 5, 1936 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of Albert Robinson and Clara (Moon) Howarth.
She is survived by her loving children: Cynthia R. Webber of Shillington, Donald W., husband of Karen Chambers of Mohnton, and Lisa J., wife of Michael Thiry of Reading. Barb’s legacy continues through her adored grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Webber, Dylana Wolcott, Bret and Barbara Chambers, Michelle Frisby, Timothy and Andrew Thiry along with her ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She shared daily phone calls and memorable visits with her beloved sisters, Joan Slocum and Martha Morris of Gulfport, Florida.
Barb was a dedicated Community General Hospital employee until she retired in 1999. She was a faithful member of Immanuel UCC in Shillington. Her front porch was a sanctuary for her plants, flowers, family and friends. Neighborhood dogs knew to stop there for a cookie and loving stroke. She crocheted and knitted love into every blanket and scarf she made. Barb was always ready for the next puzzle or game of Scrabble, and made sure there was a cup of tea for anyone who stopped in for a visit. She lived a life of unconditional love.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, with Pastor Megan Huesgen, officiating. Friends and family may call from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Immanuel UCC, Meals on Wheels Berks Encore, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
