Christ J Bucolo, 96, of Shillington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 14, 2025.
Christ was born near the town of Messina, on the island of Sicily on October 28, 1928. At one year of age, he and his mother, Francesca, traveled across the Atlantic Ocean, to join with his father, Antonio Bucolo, who had settled in Reading before their arrival.
Christ grew up in Reading, graduating from Reading HS in 1946 and later, Kutztown Teachers College and Columbia Teachers College, where he earned a Masters degree in education. After graduation, he enlisted in the army, serving from 1953-1955.
After discharge from the army, Christ later settled in Shillington, with his wife, Mary Lou, and together they raised their children, Louise, Christ, and John.
Christ was employed by the Governor Mifflin School District for the entirety of his career in education, first as an elementary classroom teacher and then as an elementary school principal, last serving at Brecknock Elementary School, until his retirement.
Christ was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Reading. He also joined the Mohnton Lions Club in 1967, where he served in several leadership positions throughout the time of his affiliation with the group. He received many recognition awards for decades long service.
Christ was a sports fan, known to root for his favorite Philadelphia teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. He also enjoyed good food and the pleasure of dining out at local restaurants and with his regular breakfast bunch at Friendly’s.
Christ was pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise (Rosendale) and his sister, Anna (Bucolo) Marabella. Surviving are his children, Louise A. Bucolo, wife of Desiree Kies, Alexandria, VA, Christ A Bucolo, husband to Dianne (Moyer), Silver Spring, MD, and John D. Bucolo, Aurora,CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Salvatore Bucolo, Orlando, FL.
