Constance E. Jarrard

Constance E. Jarrard (Paur), formerly of Hazleton, PA passed away peacefully in Reading Hospital, Reading, PA early Sunday, June 7.  She had recently been living at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville, PA.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Bunny) Paur.  Connie graduated from Haverford High School in 1970, attended and graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1974 with a BS degree in Education, and later attended and graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1977 with a Master’s in Education, major in Reading.

Connie worked as a teacher at Mahanoy Area School District for over 40 years and was an enthusiastic, caring, dedicated, and respected teacher. Connie started teaching in the middle school and ended her career teaching fourth grade in the Elementary school.  She loved teaching and loved all of her “kids” and coworkers.

As much as Connie loved teaching, she loved her summers in Brigantine, NJ and just sitting on the beach.  From June through August, she would be at the shore enjoying the beach, cooking clams, crabs, and lobster not only for herself, but for all household guests too. Once she retired, she spent equal time in Brigantine and Hazleton. She enjoyed her life and her favorite things throughout the year – her cats, the beach, going to concerts, traveling and reading.

Connie is survived by her Aunt Kathleen Chelian, dear cousins and Brian Chelian and Dan Chelian (Lisa), best friend Patty McQuillan, nephews, many other cousins, GNO girls, and many close and good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27,2026 at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church, 410 East Mahanoy Ave, Mahanoy City, PA.  Please consider wearing summer casual, preferably in blue!

There will be a second memorial service held in Brigantine, NJ, in September 2026.  Details will be announced.
