Elizabeth Anna (Lutz) Matz, affectionately known as Liz, was a bright light in this world who brought love and joy to everyone she met. Born on January 8, 1930, in Mohnton, PA, she lived a life filled with faith, family, and music. Liz passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023, in Reading, PA, surrounded by her loving family.
Liz's life story is a testament to the power of love and strength. After graduating from Mohnton High School, she married her sweetheart, Richard D. Matz, and together they built a beautiful family. Although her husband Richard predeceased her, their love story is one for the ages, a shining example of partnership and devotion.
Liz is survived by her children, Debra A. Adams (Layne), Rick D. Matz (Phyllis), and Michele M. Pearson (Doug). Her legacy of love lives on through her grandchildren, Paul S. Reppert (Lorie), Kristin J. Kelley (Michael), Nathan J. Matz, Ainsley B. Matz, R. Collier Pearson (deceased), MacLean R. Pearson, and Riley B. Pearson; as well as her great-granddaughter, Makayla J. Kelley.
She is the daughter of the late Chester and Grace (Cake) Lutz and is survived by sister, Mary Griessman. She was predeceased by brothers, Karl Lutz and Ralph Lutz, and sisters Dorothy Senff and Beatrice Harke.
Liz's love for music was a constant thread woven throughout her life, starting early on as she sang and played piano with her musically talented siblings. She played piano for her senior citizens group, the Golden Agers, and for Calvary United Methodist Church in Mohnton, where she also sang in the choir for many years. Liz's uplifting musical talent brought much joy to countless people.
Liz was known for her friendly nature. Her warm smile and kind spirit made her a cherished friend to many, and her unwavering faith in God was a source of strength and encouragement to those around her.
Liz’s celebration of life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1 W. Wyomissing Ave., Mohnton, PA 19540 on Monday, June 26, 2023. Friends may greet the family at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
