Esther Leininger Obituary

Esther L. (Liss) Leininger, 93, formerly of Mohnton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the residence of her daughter in Perkiomenville, where she has resided for the past several years.

She was the widow of the late Dr. Thomas H. Leininger.

Born in South Temple, she was the daughter of the late Gustav T. A., and Elsa C. (Mueller) Liss.

Esther was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School and Drexel Institute of Technology, now Drexel University.   She was a Home Economics Teacher.  Early in her career she taught at the Wyomissing High School and Governor Mifflin High School.  She retired in the mid 1990’s from Exeter High School where she taught the majority of her career.  She was a longtime member of Zion E.C. Church in Mohnton and most recently attended Hope Community Church in Gilbertsville.   She was an active member of the A. A. U. W. (American Association of University Woman) and a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of Berks County Dental Association.  Esther loved making her own jams and jellies and selling them at the Governor Mifflin Craft Fair. 

Surviving are three children:  Thomas F., husband of Kathie Leininger of Chino Hills, CA; Dr. Theodor D., husband of Julia Leininger of Boyle, MS and Elisabeth L., wife of Scott B. Natter of Perkiomenville, PA. 

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren:  Daniel and Christina Leininger; Rachel, wife of Casey Taggart; Stephen, husband of Bethany Leininger; Aaron Leininger; Catherine, LiAnn, Charles, Scott and Caroline Natter; five great grandchildren; brother, Theodor, of Willow Street, PA, widower of Addie Liss and sister, Janet Heimbach of Sinking Spring, widow of Stanley.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral service and interment will be private.  A public Memorial Service will be held in the future.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Esther’s memory to the Frederick Living Benevolent Care Fund, 2849 Big Road, Zeiglerville, PA 19492.
