George Kuriger Obituary

A Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

George Kuriger, 91, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 23, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1932, in Philadelphia, to the late Martin and Margaret Kuriger. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Kuriger, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He was also the devoted father of George Kuriger Jr. (Leslie), Patricia Kuriger, and Debbie Tate, and the proud grandfather of Keith, Maggie (Andrew), Emily (Stephen), Carly, Dawn, James, and Ann Marie. He is survived by his sister, Joan Rogers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Morris, Paul, Ted, Marty, and Joe, and his sisters, Jackie, Eleanor, Shirley, Dottie, Josie, and Betty.

George was a man of integrity, generosity, and humor, and always took the time to do things that brought him and others joy. In his early years, he worked in manufacturing and warehousing. He became a Shop Steward and took a lot of pride in his ability to alleviate issues between union and management. The family moved to Morgantown in 1992, where George took a job as a shuttle bus driver at the Reading Hospital. He loved his job, which is evident by the 28 years he spent there. During this time he became a very well-respected member of the staff, and created strong, long-lasting relationships. Even after retiring at the age of 89, he would always take time to revisit his old stomping grounds, and his friends.

In his spare time, George enjoyed going camping, and riding and taking care of horses. He owned several horses throughout his life, and when he had children, he enjoyed sharing these hobbies with them. He loved watching old movies and westerns, and singing along to music.

Above all else, George loved his family deeply and considered them his proudest accomplishment. On any occasion, people would flock to him as he would light up any room with his stories of time spent with them. He was the type of person to always lend a hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement. He would always make the best out of any situation, and touched many lives with his kindness and wisdom. He cherished every moment he had with his children and grandchildren, who absolutely adored him.

George lived a full and rich life, and knew how to sprinkle positive moments into people’s lives wherever he went. He left a lasting legacy and was a true blessing to all who knew and loved him. He will always be honored and remembered for his love and spirit, and will forever be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Caring Hospice Services as well as the Reilly family for the extraordinary care and support they provided to George during his last days.
