Gerald James Braddick, 97, husband, father, engineer, sailor, and woodworker, has passed away on March 14.
“Gerry” was born in New York City, eldest son of four boys, to immigrant (British Honduras and Spain) parents. He was a precocious boy, always interested in electronics, quick to solve problems, and an excellent roller skate dancer. When he was 17, he left for military service (Navy), was eventually stationed in New Jersey, and he met Jane Ann Burlew. They married and he began employment at Reaction Motors, working on rocket propulsion systems for the USA Space Program. Gerry also started attending night school toward a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. And Gerry and Jane Ann started a family.
With GI bill support, a bachelor’s degree, stalwart work ethic, attention to detail, logical thinking, and a mechanically inclined brain, Gerry and the Braddick’s became upwardly mobile and moved to Pennsylvania in 1973. Their eldest daughter started collage in New Jersey that year.
After the kids got old enough, Gerry embarked on pursuing his other loves, sailing the sloop “9th Daughter” on the Chesapeake Bay, most often with Jane Ann, and occasionally with his youngest daughter. He also became an avid wood worker, designing and producing his own products, always gifts to friends and family.
Gerry suffered the loss of his brother Nolo in 1987, daughter Rita in 2008 and Jane Ann in 2023, after 70 years of marriage.
Gerry is survived by daughters Terry, Jean, Lin, Judy, Ruth, Birdie, Rachel, two grandchildren Jerry and Alysia, and his two brothers Jim and Frank.
