Irvin “Nick” Knouse died Saturday, July 9th, 2022, shortly after being admitted to the Reading Hospital, Tower Health. He died just 4 days short of his 77th birthday, July 13, 2022. Despite the sudden nature of his death, we are comforted that he is no longer sick or in pain and has rejoined his family and my mother, Barbara E. Knouse (D. January 9, 2010)… who he loved more than words can express. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie P. Knouse, his grandson Jake G Penkunas, a brother Glenn R. Knouse and a sister Donna Knouse.
Irvin Graduated from Muhlenberg High School and attended Penn State Berks Campus. He served in the U.S. Air Force, from 1963-1967. He was employed by Bell Labs/Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent from 1968 until the early 2000’s, as an electrical technician until he retired.
He believed in giving back to the community, working as a Counselor at HELP (Berks County’s first crisis hotline). He was a volunteer Pennsylvania Fish Commissioner in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He also served on the Volunteer Fire Brigade at his place of work, for several decades.
He was a generous man, always the first to pick up the check at any dinner and never one to let someone in need suffer… whether they needed someone to listen to, someone to help with physical labor or if their computer needed fixing… he was always there to lend a hand.
His final wishes were to be cremated and privately scattered, with my Mother’s ashes, at a place requested by both.
In lieu of flowers or a specific charity, the family requests help with a crowdfunding effort to pay for his final expenses. You can find out more by visiting his gofundme website at: https://gofund.me/e53211e1
