Irvin G. Smith

Irvin G. Smith, born on April 27, 1935, in Pottsville, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023, at the Lutheran Home in Topton.   His life was characterized by a steadfast commitment to his family, a dedication to his work, and a deep-rooted faith.

Irvin was a beloved member of his family. He was deeply loved by his wife of many years, Leonor (Munoz) Smith and his daughter, Cynthia L., wife of Dr. Michael R. Mohn of Mohnton, and son, Glenn R., husband of Lisa A. Kochel of Winchester, Virginia.  He is also survived by grandchildren, Dr. Mallory Fowler, wife of Robert Fowler III of Downingtown; Alison, wife of Aaron Sayers of Chicago, Ill; Heather, wife of Philip Dantro of Stephenson, VA; and Bradley, husband of Kate Kochel of Toms Brook, VA, and great grandchildren, Robert Fowler IV; Adelyn Sayers; Garrett & Adalyn Dantro; Natalie, Elloise & Caroline Kochel.    

Irvin's early life was spent in Pottsville, where he was born and raised. After graduating from Pottsville High School in 1955, Irvin embarked on a career that would span over three decades. He joined Reading Hospital in 1986, where he worked tirelessly as a Pharmacy Technician.  His dedication and commitment to his work were admired by his colleagues and respected by his superiors.

In addition to his professional life, Irvin was deeply involved in his community. He was a  member of the Emmanuel Fellowship Church of Mohrsville, where he faithfully attended services and participated in various church activities.   Irvin was also a proud U.S. Air Force veteran.  His service to his country was a testament to his courage and resilience.

In his passing, we remember Irvin G. Smith not only for his achievements but also for the man he was - a loving husband, a dedicated professional, a faithful church-goer, and a proud veteran.  His life was filled with love, service, and faith, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, PA.
