Jane Ann (Burlew) Braddick, 92, of Birdsboro PA., passed away on Sept. 18, 2023.
Jane Ann was born on April 14, 1931, in a home with no facilities. Her home was electrified when she was 16 years old as part of the National Electrification Project.
Her parents and grandparents were farmers, and she would talk about her responsibility to carry a pail of milk from her grandmother each day. She was also responsible for carrying wood for the kitchen cook stove.
Jane Ann went to a two-room elementary school in Cheesequake, N.J. She graduated from Matawan High School and continued to New Jersey State Teachers College, Montclair on a work study scholarship. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. At Montclair she met Gerald Braddick on a blind date. They continued dating and were married April 4, 1953.
Jane Ann and Gerald Braddick raised 8 daughters, Terry, Jean, Linda, Rita (dec), Judy, Ruth, Birdie, Rachel, and have 2 grandchildren, Jerry, and Alysia.
Jane Ann was a mother, a teacher, a bookkeeper, and had a lifelong love of reading. She volunteered at libraries wherever she lived. She read books to kids (and their parents) in the Morgantown library at the weekly “story-time” until she retired. In her retirement, she spent time sailing with Gerry on the Chesapeake in their sloop named Ninth Daughter. She was proud that she learned how to bring the captain home in an emergency.
Jane Ann’s wish for everyone is that they make themselves happy by reading a good book.
Services and Interment will be private.
