JoAnn Murray, formerly of Kenhorst, was a loving, friendly and courageous lady who passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023, in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. Born on September 29, 1955 in Reading, Pennsylvania, JoAnn left a lasting impression on all those who had the pleasure of knowing her throughout her 68 years of life.
JoAnn was a proud graduate of the Berks County Intermediate Unit in 1977. Her education there shaped her into a woman of substance, and she carried the lessons learned throughout her life. JoAnn's kindness and warmth made her a beloved figure and her courage in the face of life's challenges was truly inspiring.
Her interests were varied and reflected her vibrant personality. JoAnn was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, her enthusiasm for her teams were contagious to those around her. She had a deep love for watching old game shows and classics like "I Love Lucy" and "The Golden Girls," which brought her immense joy and laughter. JoAnn also enjoyed outings to the mall, where she reveled in the simple pleasures of shopping and people-watching. Her love for playing bingo and bowling were testament to her competitive spirit and her desire to engage with her community.
Family was the cornerstone of JoAnn’s life. She is survived by her siblings: Charles H. Murray of Reading, widower of Barbara J. Murray; Kent W. Murray, husband of Valerie M. Murray of Shillington; Bonnie L. Murray of Kenhorst; and Michael S. Murray of Reading. JoAnn was a devoted sister who instilled values of love, respect, and resilience in her family. In addition, JoAnn was a beloved aunt to Steven C. Murray, husband of Kathleen Murray; Kimberly E. Murray; and great-aunt to Carla M. Murray and Joseph S. Murray. Her family will remember her as a pillar of strength, a source of love, and an irreplaceable part of their lives.
JoAnn Murray's legacy is one of love, courage, and friendliness. She will be dearly missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her life serves as a reminder to us all to cherish the moments we have, to laugh heartily, and to love generously.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. from Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, with Pastor Robert W. Shuey, officiating.
A viewing will be held on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Supportive Concepts or the Animal Rescue League.
