Librado Mancias Jr., 93, of Mohnton passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 at Country Meadows, where he resided for several months. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.Librado (Lee) was the loving husband of Maralyn Mancias for 65 years, prior to her passing in September 2022. Born on January 9, 1930 in Brownsville, Texas, he was the son of Blaza and Librado Mancias. He was the loving father of Joanne L. McDowell (deceased), Librado (Butch) Mancias III, husband to Brenda (Behm) Mancias, Karen E. Woytko, wife to John Woytko, Mark W. Mancias husband to Mary Beth (Patti), Toni L. Drogo wife to Dennis Drogo, Kevin L. Mancias husband to Kathryn (Gillespie) Mancias and Ruben A. Mancias. He was grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Lee was a graduate of Brownsville High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army where he proudly served his country for 30 years before retiring. While serving in the Army, Lee met & married Maralyn. She was serving in the Air Force in Washington State.
Lee had a distinguished military career, retiring as a Master Sargent in 1978. He served two tours (1.5 years) in Vietnam and received numerous honors most notably: 2 National Defense Service Medals, Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Army Commendation for Valor and Gallantry, and various campaign medals – Republic of Vietnam Defense, Counter-offensive Phase I, II, III, TET 69, Summer-Fall 69, Winter-Spring 70.
During his time in the military, he enjoyed fast pitch softball and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and traveling across Europe and dancing with Maralyn. While stationed in Germany, he and his family participated in numerous Volksmarch events and group gardening.
After retirement from the Army, Lee spent 15 years working at the Army War College in Carlisle. He was involved in the development of the Magic in Mohnton Playground and the Mifflin YMCA. In 2009 he received the Mohnton Lion’s Club Citizen of the Year Award, for heroically attempting to save the life of another person at the risk of his own.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. from Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral procession will depart Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. promptly, for a 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service, with full military honors, at Indiantown Gap Veteran Cemetery, Annville, PA.
