Mary Ellen (Messner) Althouse

Mary Ellen “Molly” (Messner) Althouse, 91, of Brecknock Twp., passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at her home.

She was the widow of Robert M. “Bobby” Althouse, who died on November 3, 2009.

Born in Brecknock Twp., she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Mary (Seifert) Messner.

Molly was a graduate of the former Shillington High School.  She retired from the Bollman Hat Factory in Adamstown where she was employed as a secretary.  She was a lifelong member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Molly was a loving and devoted mother for Bobby and her three sons.  She was a Den mother for Cub Pack # 241.  She was a wonderful cook.  Her holiday meals, especially the desserts, were outstanding.  Molly enjoyed gardening and was known for her beautiful flowers.          

Surviving her are:  Children, Craig R. Althouse of Brecknock Twp.; Michael E., husband of Bernice Althouse of Millersville and Mark A., husband of Anna Althouse of Arizona; Grandchildren: Robin Althouse, Thomas Althouse, Joanne Marston and Matthew Althouse; Great Grandchild: Theodore Marston; Siblings: James, husband of Susan Messner of Brecknock Twp., and John Messner, formerly of Brecknock Twp.

She was predeceased by siblings: Jacob Messner, Samuel Messner and Elizabeth Hornberger.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc, 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, with Pastor R. Zachery Labach, officiating.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Allegheny Union Cemetery.
