Mary Ann Kruse

Mary Ann Kruse, age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, in Reading, PA, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was known for her generous spirit, unwavering faith, and as the neighborhood mom who selflessly took care of everyone in need throughout her life.

Mary Ann was the cherished wife of Norm Schuhwerk, devoted mother of Stephen and Mark (Lori), proud grandmother of Gabriel, stepmother of Becky, Caroline, Mary Jo, Kathryn, and Melody, and aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 6, 1933, Mary Ann was the daughter of Harold and Anna Benke.  She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Frank, her brother Robert, and her son Paul “PJ”.

Mary Ann loved gathering with family and friends, especially her sisters-in-law, to play cards and bowl.  She was an active member of the Heritage community, frequently playing cards in the tavern.  She enjoyed traveling and occasional trips to the casino.

Mary Ann was a devout catholic, who found comfort and strength in her beliefs. Her faith was an inspiration to all who knew her and she lived her life with a grace and dignity that reflected her deep religious convictions.

Friends will be received at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Reading on Thursday August 31st from 9:30 AM until the mass of Christian Burial begins at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be at the Lebanon Chapel Mausoleum in West Mifflin on Friday September 1st at 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
