Mary Jo Hollis Obituary

Mary Jo (McCoy) Hollis, a cherished mother, sister, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at the age of 94 at Country Meadows in Wyomissing, PA. Born on August 17, 1929, in Emlenton, PA, Mary Jo was a woman of exceptional intellect, passion, and kindness whose influence and legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.

Mary Jo was a proud graduate of Emlenton High School where she was Valedictorian and later Lock Haven University, where she earned her teaching degree in Chemistry.  She taught with dedication at Spring Grove School District and the Governor Mifflin Jr. High School.  Mary Jo's love for learning and her community extended beyond the classroom as she embarked on a second career as a real estate agent in Berks County, and later at Fromm Electric in Reading.   After retirement, she worked part-time at H & R Block.

A devout member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mohnton, Mary Jo's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She expressed her devotion through music as an active participant in both the choir and bell choir, bringing joy and upliftment to every service.

She was an avid enthusiast of the outdoors.  An ardent photographer, birdwatcher and nature lover, she found solace and happiness in the tranquility of camp life.  She was an avid reader, loved her Cats and loved watching Penn State Football.

She is survived by her loving sons, Walter F. Hollis and his wife Trish of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; William J. Hollis of Mohnton; Sean T. Hollis and his wife Debbie of Exeter Twp.; and Thomas E. Hollis and his wife Deb of Richmond Hill, GA. Her legacy also lives on through her beloved granddaughter, Sarah E. Hollis of Dresden, Germany. Mary Jo's memory will be cherished by her sister, Carolyn MacAskie of Kerrville, TX, and her brother, F. Donald McCoy and his wife Judy of Hollis, N.H. Each family member will hold dear the lessons and love she imparted.
