Melvin Eager Obituary

Melvin C. Eager, 88, of Sinking Spring passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 23, 2024.

Born in Brecknock Township, he was the 7th of 10 children to Joseph and Lillian (Fryberger) Eager.  After serving in the US Army overseas “Melly” worked as a hardener at Bollman Hat factory and a miner at Grace Mines before operating his own home repair business until his retirement.

A life-long small animal enthusiast Melly would often be found at an auction, sale, pigeon show or the Green Dragon. You never knew what he would come home with, it could be a pigeon, fainting goats, brahma bull or once a pony in the back seat of a station wagon.

His other love was hunting. Although you could often find him napping against a log, or roasting hot-dogs in a tree-stand, he always came home with a deer somehow.

He is survived by daughters, Sandra Eager (companion of William Baldwin) and Kelly Eager (companion of Michael McKittrick) Grandchildren James and Nathan Conard and Rachael and Cora McKittrick, Great-grandchildren Ivy, Elliott and William, and honorary Grandchildren Sam, Justin and Chelsea.

Also surviving are his sister Lillian “Polly” Messner of Sinking Spring and Brother-in-Law John Frankhouser of Reinholds.  He is predeceased by siblings Ruby, Mabel, Esther, Carol, Victor, Raymond, Charles and Bill.

Services will be private.
