Raymond Unger Obituary

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Raymond H. Unger (Pop) of Mohnton. Ray never met a stranger! He left an impression on everyone he met. Born 25 November 1929, he passed from this earthly plain to the Glory of his Lord on 6 October 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Stella Unger, his beloved wife of 55 years Catherine (nee Harpel) and his daughter Karen. Also preceding him in death were brothers Harvey Jr and Laverne (Beanie). He is survived by a sister Anna Mae, two daughters, Connie Yoch and Kim Adams (Randy) and a son Gary (Becky). He was very proud of his five grandchildren, Paul, Todd, Ryan, Ashely, and Tim and his nine great-grandchildren.

He served his country in the United States Air Force in aircraft maintenance. After the service, he worked at Carpenter Technology, retiring in 1985. In retirement he enjoyed traveling with Cathy throughout the United States, mostly in the West. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. A lifelong fan of sprint car racing, he often entertained us with stories of the great drivers he watched. Ray also had a huge soft spot for animals. He had Boston Terriers throughout his life and in later years he enjoyed feeding his birds and squirrels. He was one of the longest serving rainfall trackers in Berks County. Ray was a member of St John’s Reformed Church in Sinking Spring, where he was loved by all.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from St. John’s Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, PA.  A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
