Rev. Lawrence Wilson Althouse
Born March 21, 1930 in Reading Pennsylvania and died March 6, 2026
Son of Wilson K and Kathleen (Reber) Althouse. Two sons, Kevin R. Althouse of Shillington and Todd E. Althouse of Reading. He graduated Reading High school in 1947 and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania 1952. He was ordained into the ministry at United Theological Seminary Dayton Ohio 1955. He attended the Union Theological Seminary in New York City 1960-63. He was pastor at Charlton Church in Paxtonia, Pennsylvania 1955-60, associate pastor at Asbury Methodist Church 1960-63, pastor at Calvary United Methodist Church Mohnton 1963-75 and associate pastor at First United Methodist Church downtown Dallas until his retirement in 1993. For over 50 years he authored a column "The Bible Speaks" and in 1977 a book"Rediscovering The Gift of Healing". While at Reading High School he wrote a sports column for the Reading Eagle. Rev. Althouse while pastor at Calvary United Methodist Church in Mohnton conducted a weekly Thursday morning healing service which appeared on the front page of The National Enquirer in 1974. He was also a former national president of the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship. His burial will be in Texas where he previously resided.
