Robert M. Kleinhagen II, known affectionately as Bob to all who cherished him, embraced each day of his remarkable life until its sunset on October 31, 2024. Born on the 13th of May, 1961, in the heart of Carbon County, Bob's journey was as bold and spirited as the county of his birth. His passing in serene Mohnton was met with the grace and dignity with which he lived his life, following a valiant battle with glioblastoma.
Bob was a beloved husband to Joanne Kleinhagen (née Frymoyer), and a guiding light as a father to Jason and Ryan Slater, whom he raised with an abundance of love and wisdom. His warmth extended to his cherished daughter-in-law Jennifer Slater, and his role as 'Pop-Pop' to his adoring grandchildren, Jaileah and Jayden Slater, was performed with an unsurpassed tenderness and joy. He was the treasured son of Joyce Kleinhagen (Steigerwalt) and the late Robert M. Kleinhagen, and a supportive brother to Tim Kleinhagen. Predeceased by his sister Rebecca Kleinhagen, Bob's memory will be upheld by the family bonds they all shared. His devoted puppy, Nero, was a constant companion on life's adventures and will surely miss their shared explorations.
Bob's formative years were marked by a dedication to education, pursuing a degree in engineering at Alvernia University, where his keen intellect and problem-solving abilities shone brightly. Post-graduation, Bob served his country with honor and distinction as a veteran of the US Army, bringing the same sense of duty and patriotism to his everyday life that he did to his military service. His professional path as an engineer was a testament to his meticulous nature and innovative spirit, and his colleagues held him in the highest esteem.
Among Bob's myriad passions, taking invigorating hikes at Nolde Forest with Nero by his side was a treasured pastime. These moments of tranquility amidst nature's beauty were matched by evenings spent as a connoisseur of fine whiskeys and a fervent enthusiast of 'Jeopardy!', where his impressive repository of knowledge made him a formidable contestant from the comfort of his own living room.
To describe Bob as simply ‘funny’ would not do justice to the laughter that echoed in rooms long after his jokes were shared. His courage, evident through his staunch resolve in the face of adversity, inspired those around him. However, it was his selflessness that truly left an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of all around him; his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others exemplified the very best of humanity. Bob’s impact on the world was as profound as his presence was cherished.
Bob Kleinhagen’s absence will be felt deeply by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy, however, endures through the lives he touched, the wisdom he imparted, and the laughter he inspired. Each time his loved ones take a walk in the woods, watch an episode of 'Jeopardy!', or raise a glass in his honor, Bob will be there, his spirit as indomitable in memory as it was in life.
As Bob sets off on his final hike through the forests beyond this world, we celebrate a life lived with fullness, courage, and love. His journey on earth concludes, but the stories, memories, and affection he fostered remain with us, as guiding stars in the nights to come. Robert M. Kleinhagen II - father, husband, patriot, and friend - leaves a legacy as majestic and enduring as the forests he loved to wander.
Funeral Service and interment will be private.
