Russell Showalter Obituary

Russell, N. Showalter, 89, of Mohnton, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Mifflin Court in Shillington.

He was the husband of Marguerite L. (Wagner) Showalter who passed away in 2016.  They were happily married for 44 years and shared many special times together.

Born in Mohnton on August 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Norman S. and Lillian L. (Gedman) Showalter.

Russ was a 1950 graduate of the former Mohnton High School.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He was employed at Carpenter Technology in Reading until his retirement in 1994.Russ was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mohnton. He was a member of the Pennwyn Motor Association, the Mohnton Friendship Fire Company #2, the Gouglersville Fire Co., the Mohnton V.F.W. Post 9045, the Adamstown Rod and Gun Club, and the Mohnton Fish & Game Association.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting out at the mountains, fishing on Lake Champlain, and driving through the countryside. As an avid sports fan, he proudly wore his Red Sox, Eagles and Buccaneers championship gear. He was also a dog lover, as was Marguerite. Together they owned several Shelties over the years, including Russ’s beloved companion Harley.  In addition to his love for family, Russ highly valued friends and neighbors and was especially thankful for his relationship with the Damato family.

Russ will be missed dearly. He was a kind and generous man, always ready to help his family and friends.

Russ is survived by a son, Greg Showalter and his wife Anita, a step-daughter, Debra (Sweitzer) Wildermuth and her husband Steve, a daughter, Cindy (Showalter) DeBellis and her husband Jim, a son, Jim Showalter and his wife Sherry, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Showalter, wife Abbey, Matthew Showalter, wife Brooke, Curtis Showalter, wife Kelsey, Amanda Wildermuth, Daniel Wildermuth, wife Brittany, Shannon Kohl, husband Eric, Jesse Weaver, and eight great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Eugene W. Showalter.

He was predeceased by brothers, Robert F. Showalter, and Marshall R. Showalter.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Private burial will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
